Little Mermaid (mod Split)

A mermaid figure in the classic fairy-tale mould: long hair, a tail curled beneath her, and the half-girl, half-fish form that has carried the story from Andersen's page through every retelling since. Sculpts of this subject usually choose stillness over action — perched, chin up, caught out of her element and looking towards somewhere she cannot go. The word split in the name marks this out as a reworked version of the model broken into more than one part for printing, which is common practice for figures where hair and tail sweep away from the body. It belongs in a display cabinet rather than a toy box. Painted, it makes a proper shelf collectible for anyone who grew up on the tale, and it is a rewarding subject to work on if you want practice with faces, flowing hair and scale texture on the same piece.
