Pointe Droite

The name is French for right point, and the point is what carries the piece: a form that narrows as it rises and resolves to a single clean tip. Shapes built this way read as graphic rather than fussy, because the eye follows one line upward and stops — which is why the motif turns up as often in emblems and logos as it does in ornaments. It is a single-model display object, scaled for a shelf, a mantelpiece or the corner of a desk rather than a glass cabinet. That makes it a good counterweight on a shelf otherwise full of characters and busts, where one abstract silhouette does more work than another figure would. Left bare it reads as a study in form; given a coat of paint it edges closer to a trophy or an award piece.
