Pollen X4 Lamp

Pollen looks engineered once you get close enough to see it properly: spheres studded with regular spines and pores, geometry repeating in every direction with a precision no designer would dare invent. That is the source this shade draws on, and it gives a lamp with something to say when it is switched off as well as lit. It belongs in the softer corners of a room, on a bedside table, a low living-room shelf or at the far end of a hallway where the overhead light does not reach. Organic forms suit interiors that already lean towards plants and natural materials, where a plain drum shade tends to read as an afterthought. Lighting is one of the places where making genuinely beats buying. A sculptural shade like this is awkward and expensive to injection-mould, which is a large part of why you rarely see one on a high-street shelf at a sensible price.
