Stylized Djinn Lamp

Most people know the shape long before they know the word for it: a swollen rounded body, a long tapering spout, a looping handle and a domed lid with a small knop on top. This is that oil lamp, the one a djinn is supposed to come out of, treated in a deliberately stylised way rather than as a museum-accurate antique. The curves are pushed further than any metalsmith would ever have hammered them. As a lighting piece it leans into the joke of a lamp shaped like a lamp. It sits comfortably on a bedside table, a bookshelf or a windowsill, and reads as much like a prop as a fixture. Beyond the obvious, it earns a place in an Arabian Nights display, a tabletop treasure hoard, or a costume kit for pantomime and fancy dress. Exaggerated proportions carry across a room, which is exactly what a prop needs to do.
