Description
Tetsuwan Atom, or Mighty Atom, is the robot child Osamu Tezuka drew in 1952 and the character the West came to know as Astro Boy. He is more or less the founding figure of modern manga and anime, and this is him as a display piece: the boy-shaped android with the twin hair spikes, the rocket boots and the forward-leaning stance that has been copied for seventy years. The sculpt is built as a collectible rather than a game piece, using the simplified volumes and strong silhouette of a vinyl figure so it holds its shape on a crowded shelf. It is an obvious pick for anime collectors, for anyone with a soft spot for Showa-era science fiction, and as a gift for a manga reader who knows exactly where the medium started.
