Toiture Batiment D

French for 'roof, building D', this is the upper storey of a modelled structure — one lettered element from a series of buildings meant to be assembled into a street, a yard or a stretch of layout. Roofs carry a disproportionate amount of the work in scale architecture: the pitch, the ridge line and the pattern of the covering are what tell the eye whether it is looking at a French townhouse, a workshop or an outbuilding, long before any signage does. It comes as a multi-part kit, which is the usual approach for architectural scenery — sections that go together into a whole rather than one fused block. The audience is diorama builders, railway modellers and terrain makers after a specific named structure rather than generic ruins, along with collectors who assemble and display buildings as objects in their own right.
