Vase TAR 01

Numbered as the first of a series, this is a sculptural vessel built around a silhouette motif, with towers and battlements reading around the body of the vase like a skyline cut from card. The vase form is the canvas; the fan-art subject is the point, and the two are worked together rather than stuck one on top of the other. It is a shelf and mantelpiece object above all. Standing empty it works as a piece of display sculpture, catching the eye from the side where the silhouette is strongest, and it takes dried stems, grasses and seed heads happily enough if you want something in it. The series numbering hints at companions, so collectors who like a matched set on one shelf have somewhere to go after this one.
