Windows Lamp

Named for the openings cut through its body, this shade treats light as something to frame rather than simply spread. Ranks of window-like apertures break the surface into panels, so that lit from within it reads at night like a small building with the lights on — the pattern thrown across the surrounding wall is as much the point as the object sitting on the table. It belongs on a bedside table, a hall shelf or a deep windowsill, anywhere you want a low patterned glow rather than a working light to read by. In daylight it is quiet and architectural, content to sit among books and plants without asking for attention, and it only really comes into its own once the room dims. One file, one continuous graphic idea, carried the whole way round the form.
