Description

A folk musician mid-song, balalaika in hand. This characterful figure kneels on one knee atop a shaped base, head tipped back and mouth open in full voice, a shaggy fur ushanka pulled down over long hair and a bushy beard. He cradles a triangular balalaika whose soundboard is covered in swirling engraved scrollwork, one hand fretting the ornately carved neck while the other strums. His layered folk clothing — a fur-trimmed jacket, baggy trousers and wound bindings at the shins — is sculpted with deep, believable folds. It is a lovely display piece for lovers of Slavic and Cossack folk culture, a shelf character for a musician or collector, or a detailed painting project. The pose tells a whole story on its own. Print notes • Resin does justice to the engraved balalaika, the fur texture and the face — this model rewards fine detail. • Support the raised chin, the instrument neck, the strumming forearm and the overhanging hat flap; the base sits flat. • Prints well anywhere from a 75 mm collectible up to a 200 mm display statue. • Angle it slightly so the open mouth and beard stay support-free, and clean the seam along the base edge.
