Double-Headed Eagle Coat Of Arms Relief

A double-headed eagle, crowned and armed, in high relief. This carving reproduces the double-headed eagle coat of arms in dense, heraldic detail. Two crowned heads face outward beneath a third, larger crown linked by a flowing ribbon; the wings sweep up in tiers of individually cut feathers, and the talons grip a sceptre on one side and a globus cruciger, the cross-topped orb, on the other. At the centre a shield carries a mounted rider spearing a serpent, and scrolling acanthus fills the lower field. It is a busy, symmetrical composition that throws dramatic shadows, a real showcase of what deep-relief routing can do. Cut notes • A fine, high-detail job: rough with a 1/4" bit, then switch to a 0.5-1 mm tapered ball-nose for the feathers, crowns and the tiny rider. • Choose a tight, even grain such as lime, maple or cherry so the delicate talons and feather tips do not chip. • Keep stepover low, around 8-10%, on the finish pass to avoid tool marks across the broad wing surfaces. • Seal and wax for a natural look, or gild the raised detail over a dark base for a museum-style two-tone finish, and leave a flat lower margin for fixings.
