Double-Headed Imperial Eagle Relief

The double-headed eagle in full ceremonial spread — a showpiece relief for a statement wall. Two crowned heads face outward from a single body, each beak open and crested, joined above by a ribbon that carries a third, larger crown. The wings are thrown wide and carved feather by feather, layered from broad flight quills down to fine covert plumage. In one talon the eagle grips a beaded sceptre, in the other a cross-topped orb, and a plain shield sits on its breast, framed below by a scrolling tail of ornate plumes. The blank shield is deliberate — leave it clean, or carve a crest, initial or date into it to personalise the piece. This is a deep, high-detail relief meant to be seen: a hall or study wall plaque, a carved door or headboard centre, or a heraldic feature above a fireplace. Print / CNC notes • Depth carries this design — allow a generous Z range so the raised heads and wing edges stand well proud of the ground. • Rough with a large ball-nose, then finish feathers and crown detail with a fine tapered bit (1–2 mm). • For 3D printing, lay it flat and face-up; the relief needs no supports, and 0.12 mm layers keep the feather edges crisp. • Machines best in a tight-grained hardwood; seal and dark-wax, or paint and gild the raised detail against a stained ground. Symmetry is everything here, so square your stock and zero your origin dead-centre before cutting.
