Lion-Head Greek-Key Medallion

A proud lion frozen mid-roar inside a ring of Greek key. This circular CNC medallion centres on a lion's head carved in deep relief — a thick, tousled mane radiating outward, a heavy furrowed brow, and an open jaw baring its teeth in a full snarl. Encircling the beast is a bold meander (Greek-key) border, its interlocking bracket segments lending the piece a classical, almost coin-like authority, finished off with a plain raised outer rim. It reads as a heraldic centrepiece: mount it on a front door as a lion's-head boss, sink it into a gate or fence post, set it as the medallion on a fireplace surround, headboard or bar front, or simply hang it alone as a statement wall roundel. Cut notes: • Best machined as a 3D relief — hog out the background with a large end mill, then detail the mane and face with a 2mm or smaller tapered ball-nose for crisp fur strands. • Dense hardwoods (oak, walnut, sapele) hold the fine mane detail far better than soft pine. • Scales anywhere from a 150mm plaque up to a 400mm+ door piece; shrink the stepover as the piece gets smaller. • A dark stain wiped back off the high points, or a bronze/gilt wax over sealed timber, makes the lion leap out against the recessed key border.
