Octagonal Oval Aperture Picture Frame

An octagon on the outside, a soft oval within. A picture frame with real presence: eight straight, bevelled sides step down through a broad, gently faceted border to a smooth oval aperture at the centre. That contrast of crisp geometric edges against the rounded opening lends it a look that is part Art-Deco, part Victorian locket — equally at home holding a sepia portrait, a small mirror or a pressed-flower keepsake. It is supplied as a 3D relief for fabrication rather than a finished object. Route it from board stock on a CNC, or 3D-print it flat for a quick decorative frame you can hang the same afternoon. Making notes: • Pocket the oval window first, then run the outer octagon profile pass so the piece releases cleanly from the stock. • MDF takes paint and gilt cream beautifully; oak or walnut suits a natural, waxed finish. • Model a shallow rebate (step) into the back if you want to seat glass and a photo behind the opening. • Break the sharp bevel arris with a light sand so the highlight runs evenly around the frame, then add a sawtooth hanger or keyhole slot on the reverse to wall-mount it.
