Description

The great Aztec Sun Stone, rendered as a deep circular relief. At the centre glares the face of Tonatiuh, the sun deity — tongue thrust out as a sacrificial blade, framed by ear discs and a feathered headdress. Around him the familiar concentric rings unfold: the four-lobed Nahui Ollin glyph enclosing the day-signs, the ring of twenty named days, bands of dots and rays, and an outer border of two fire-serpents whose segmented bodies meet head to head at the base. It's dense, symmetrical and instantly recognisable as one of Mesoamerica's most iconic carvings. A striking centrepiece for anyone into history, mythology or bold graphic ornament — mount it as a round wall medallion, a clock-face blank, or a statement plaque. Cut notes • This is a detail-heavy disc: plan a roughing pass followed by a fine finishing pass with a small tapered ball-nose (1 mm or less) to resolve the glyph work. • Keep the blank well-secured and dead flat — the concentric symmetry makes any dishing or run-out very visible. • Machine in a close-grained hardwood or dense modelling board; the tiny raised glyphs chip easily in coarse, open-grain timber. • Finish with a dark wash rubbed back to leave the raised rings and central mask bright — it mimics aged stone and lifts every ring of the calendar.
