Description

The full state emblem of the Soviet Union, carved in deep relief. This is a dense, symmetrical coat-of-arms panel: a gridded globe at the centre overlaid with a crossed hammer and sickle, crowned by a five-pointed star, and cradled between two great arcs of wheat. Ribbon banners wrap the sheaves, each fold carrying the old rallying motto in the scripts of the union's many republics, and a burst of sunrays fans up from the base behind the grain. It is a heavily layered piece of historical iconography with a lot of real depth. As a relief it makes a bold wall plaque or display roundel — a talking point for collectors of twentieth-century design, history enthusiasts and prop makers. The stacking of star, globe, tools and grain gives it dramatic dimensionality under a single raking light. Print & CNC notes • On a router, cut in a stable hardwood or dense MDF; rough with an end mill, then finish with a fine tapered ballnose to catch the wheat awns and lettering. • The tiny banner text is the challenge — plan a small finishing bit and a slow finishing feed, or scale the piece up so it stays legible. • 3D printing? Resin holds the fine script and grain best; print flat, face-up. • A metallic wax or bronze rub-and-buff over a dark base makes the whole relief read like cast metal.
