Description

A prowling marten frozen on a heraldic shield. Set within a classic escutcheon — straight shoulders, curved sides and a single point at the base — a lithe, bushy-tailed animal stalks forward across the field. It reads as a marten or sable: pricked ears, a slender muzzle turned toward the viewer, a long low body and one forepaw lifted mid-step, tail sweeping up in a great plume behind. This is the kind of beast that fills real civic and family coats of arms, carved here in clean relief against a smoothly recessed ground. Mount it in a study, hall, library or den for an heirloom, old-world feel, or use it as a personalised crest for anyone whose family or town claims the marten. CNC notes • A 3D relief carve: pocket the background flat, then model the animal proud of the field so it stands away from the shield. • Finish the muzzle, ears and tail feathering with a fine ball-nose or tapered bit — that detail is what sells the creature. • Hardwoods (walnut, oak, sapele) suit the heraldic look; a dark stain with a lightly sanded raised figure gives a two-tone cameo effect. • Add a keyhole recess on the reverse for flush wall hanging, or frame the shield in a matching border.
