Wreathed Cross Openwork Roundel

A wreathed medallion built around a looping cross. This circular CNC piece frames an equal-armed heraldic cross at its heart, each arm ending in curling scroll tendrils that loop back into open rings for an airy, pierced centre. Around it runs a full ring of stylised leaves and buds in repeating relief, with small bud finials marking the four cardinal points where the inner motif meets the outer band. The openwork lets light — and whatever backing surface it is mounted on — show through the design. It suits a ceiling rose, a door or gate panel, a headboard centrepiece, or church- and heraldic-themed decor. Symmetrical from every axis, it works as a standalone roundel or as the hub of a larger scheme. Print notes • If routing, this needs genuine through-cuts for the pierced areas — use tabs to hold the inner cross island in place, and a small bit to clear the tight loops. • Choose a stable board or ply so the openwork does not warp once it is cut free. • For 3D printing, the flat-backed relief prints face-up without supports; scale it to your fixture. • Prime and finish as aged bronze or gilt, or paint to match the surrounding woodwork; a wash settles nicely into the recesses.
