Description

A devotional roundel where a radiant cross sits inside a ring of Gothic tracery. At the heart of this circular medallion is a broad Latin cross, its beams flaring outward into a sunburst of straight radial rays so the whole centre reads like light breaking behind the crucifix. Encircling it is a carved band of quatrefoil and trefoil tracery — plump lobed petals repeating around the rim, with four larger florettes marking the cardinal points. The result is calm, symmetrical and unmistakably ecclesiastical. This piece suits anywhere a quiet piece of faith-based ornament belongs: a church pew end or altar front, a memorial plaque, a door boss, or a framed roundel above a mantel. It also makes a considered gift for a christening, confirmation or anniversary. Scaled small it works as a repeating boss along furniture; scaled large it becomes a centrepiece in its own right. Print / CNC notes • Decide early whether the gaps between the tracery lobes are cut clean through (a fretwork window) or left as blind pockets — the model reads well either way. • A V-bit sharpens the valleys between the sunburst rays; follow with a ballnose pass on the domed tracery. • Close-grained hardwood holds the fine lobe detail; lime or maple gild cleanly if you want a gold-leaf finish. • Keep stepover tight around the central rays so the star does not go faceted.
