Description

A swirl of Celtic scrollwork caught inside a blooming ring. This circular relief medallion centres on a trio of bold, mirror-matched scrolls — two teardrop whorls curling upward and a broad scroll unfurling below — that read like a stylised triskele of spirals. Around them runs a raised outer band studded with little leaf-and-bud clusters, giving the piece the look of a laurel wreath framing the knotwork. Everything sits proud of a flat back plate, so the design catches the light and throws crisp shadow across every groove. It is built for the router table rather than the print bed: drop it onto a cabinet door, a headboard, a jewellery-box lid or a plaque above a fireplace and it instantly dresses up plain timber. The open negative spaces between the scrolls also let it work backlit against a contrasting wall. Print notes • Carve in a straight-grained hardwood (oak, walnut, cherry) so the fine scroll tips do not chip; a v-bit or tapered ball-nose gives the cleanest fillets. • Keep the outer wreath slightly higher than the central motif to preserve the layered, tiered relief you see here. • If you 3D-print it instead, lay it flat and print face-up — no supports needed — then prime and paint or gild for a carved-wood illusion. • Sand the raised edges lightly and finish with wax or oil to pop the depth.
