Description

A serene classical beauty, gazing down from a deep-carved plaque. Worked in high relief on an upright rectangular panel, this is the face and shoulders of a woman rendered in the Greco-Roman ideal — smooth oval face, straight nose, softly lowered eyes and a faint, knowing calm at the mouth. Her hair is the showpiece: thick waves swept back off the brow and breaking into loose, deeply channelled locks that tumble past her ear, held by a slim fillet with a small jewelled boss at the centre of the forehead. One bare shoulder turns away at the base, giving the whole thing the feel of a fragment of antique statuary. It is made to hang as wall art — over a fireplace, along a hallway, or as a centrepiece medallion set into a larger carved door or headboard. CNC notes: • This lives or dies on the hair and eyelids, so plan a fine finishing pass with a 1mm tapered ball-nose and a small stepover; the flowing locks need clean, separated channels. • Choose a fine, pale hardwood — lime, basswood or pear — or machinable modelling board if you plan to cast or gild the result. • Keep the broad, smooth planes of the face tool-mark free; a light hand-sand with the grain lifts the skin while you leave the hair crisp and unsanded. • Deep relief means a long Z travel — check your bit stick-out and clearance before committing to the roughing pass.
