Description

Trail dust and quiet trust, carved in relief. Despite the workshop code, this file is a richly detailed relief of a cowboy leaning in close to his horse, broad-brimmed hat tipped low over a weathered, bearded face, one gloved hand resting against the animal's cheek. The horse fills the right of the panel with a flowing forelock, a buckled bridle and a soft muzzle, its mane rendered in deep, streaming strands. It's a single-sided high-relief sculpt meant to be carved into a panel and viewed head-on, with dramatic depth between the raised figures and the recessed background. It suits a Western-themed wall plaque, a rancher's gift, a bar or tack-room feature, or a mantel piece for anyone who loves horses. Finished in stained hardwood it passes for a heritage carving. Carving notes • A true 3-axis relief: rough with a large ball-nose, then detail the mane and hatband with a 1-2mm tapered bit. • Rake light across the finished cut to make the deep shadows read. • Close-grain woods (cherry, walnut, basswood) hold the fine facial and bridle detail best. • It also prints well as resin wall art; add supports under the hat brim and muzzle overhangs. • Seal with a matte oil so glare doesn't wash out the depth.
