Benin Queen Idia Mask Plaque

A regal African mask, carved in the visual language of Benin court bronzes. The render is a stylised commemorative head crowned by stacked, patterned tiers that curve up and around the face like a fan of coral beads. Beneath the crown sits a checked cap; the eyes are cut as deep vertical slots, fine scarification lines fan from the inner brows, and a broad calm nose and full lips rise from a high beaded collar textured with woven cross-hatching.
