Description

A skater caught mid-stride, head down and stick loaded over the puck. This is a carved relief of an ice hockey player in full attacking motion, crouched low with knees bent and one skate kicked back as he drives across the ice. The stick is held in two padded gloves and angled down to a broad blade that cradles the puck, while the sweater pulls tight across the shoulders and the face is set in concentration. The whole figure rides on a slim rectangular plinth, so it reads as a trophy-style plaque rather than a flat panel, with the skate blades and stick lifting slightly clear of the ground for depth. It suits a games room, a rink clubhouse, an end-of-season award or a gift for a hockey-mad player or fan, and looks best mounted upright against a contrasting wood or painted board. Cut notes • Machine as a raised relief in close-grained hardwood (maple, cherry, beech) so the jersey folds and glove ridges hold. • Rough with a large ballnose, then finish the face, laces and stick with a 1-2mm tapered ballnose for clean detail. • Keep the long axis of the skater along the grain to avoid short-grain breakout at the trailing skate. • Sand lightly and leave natural under oil, or paint the figure and wax the background for contrast.
