Moustached Officer Portrait Bust

A commanding portrait bust in full military dress. The carving shows a heavy-browed man with swept-back hair and a broad, drooping moustache, jaw set and gaze level. He wears a high-collared officer's tunic with squared epaulettes and a single star medal pinned to the chest, and the whole bust sits on a turned, stepped circular plinth. The modelling is confident — deep-cut brow and moustache, softly graded cheeks, sharply pressed uniform folds — a mid-century statesman study with real weight to it. It works as a mantel, bookshelf or study-desk portrait piece, a collector's display, or a rewarding subject for painting and patination where the uniform detail really rewards a wash. Cut notes: • A relief-to-round subject: rough with a flat end mill, then finish with a fine tapered ball-nose to capture the hair, moustache and fabric creases. • Carve in a tight-grained hardwood or a stable blank; a small stepover keeps the face smooth and free of facets. • The undercuts beneath the collar and epaulettes benefit from a follow-up pass or a little hand carving. • Finish with a warm oil for a wood look, or prime and paint for a bronze or aged-stone effect on the plinth.
