Saint George Slaying Dragon Plaque

Saint George at full gallop, lance driving down into the dragon beneath the hooves. Forget the "celtic" label — this is unmistakably the classic Saint George and the dragon, carved as a dramatic high relief. A helmeted rider in a flowing tunic and cloak sits astride a rearing, muscular horse, its mane cropped and neck arched, forelegs pawing the air. Behind the rider a banner streams back off its staff; his lance runs the full diagonal of the composition and plunges into a coiled, scaled dragon writhing along the base, wings and clawed feet splayed. The modelling is confident and textured — braided mane, quilted saddle-cloth, reptilian scales — reading almost like carved stone or aged boxwood. It's a statement plaque: an icon-style wall panel, a devotional or heraldic piece, a centrepiece above a mantel, or a striking gift with a slaying-your-dragons meaning. Cutting / print notes • Deep, undercut-heavy relief — for CNC plan a roughing pass and a fine ball-nose finish, and expect some hand-detailing around the lance and dragon. • A dense, fine-grained hardwood (boxwood, pear, lime) holds the small facial and scale detail far better than an open-grained timber. • On resin/FDM it scales down to a display or icon plaque nicely; orient face-up and support the overhanging banner and raised foreleg. • Leave the deepest pockets slightly proud and clean them by hand for the sharpest shadows. Whichever way you make it, a raking side light is what brings the whole battle to life.
