Carved Rococo Chair Frame

The bones of a French salon chair, carved in flowing scroll and shell. This is an ornate seat frame drawn in one sweeping outline: a serpentine crest rail crowned by a central shell-and-scroll cartouche curves down into whip-like uprights that finish in tight volute scrolls. Below, two cabriole legs bow outward on carved knees, and a shaped apron ties them together with a small rosette flower at its centre. Every member is softened with C-scrolls and gentle mouldings — pure Louis XV Rococo attitude, sculpted as a relief-and-in-the-round hybrid. It is meant as a decorative frame or applique for furniture restoration and reproduction: a chair or settee back, a mirror surround, a bed crown, or an over-mantel panel. It also scales down neatly as ornate dolls-house or fairy-garden furniture. Making notes • The design splits naturally into crest, uprights, legs and apron — machine or print them separately and join for the cleanest results and the least support. • On CNC, cut the scrollwork as a relief on the show face, then finish edges by hand where the volutes turn. • FDM: lay each curved member flat to the bed so the scroll silhouette prints without weak neck sections. • Resin captures the shell cartouche and rosette crisply at small scale. • Prime and wax, or gild the raised scrolls over a coloured ground for a classic parcel-gilt look.
