Foliate Cartouche Furniture Crest

A long, low sweep of carved timber crowned by a single burst of acanthus. This is a slender, gently bowed crest rail: a shallow ogee-moulded band runs its whole length, the two ends finish in tight downturned volute scrolls, and the centre lifts into a raised cartouche of curling acanthus leaves flanked by a pair of thin laurel sprays that trail outward along the moulding. The field is otherwise plain, which lets the central motif and the scrolled terminals carry the piece. It is designed as a crest or apron for furniture and joinery, a bed crown, a wardrobe or cabinet pediment, a mantel frieze or an over-door panel, anywhere a horizontal run wants a classical flourish. Print / CNC notes • Single-sided relief with a flat back: machine straight into an oak, walnut or ash blank, or 3D-print it flat with the detail face up. • Clear the broad field and the moulding with a large ball-nose bit, then switch to a fine tapered ball-nose for the acanthus lobes and a narrow V-bit for the leaf veins. • The design is symmetric, so it mirrors and tiles cleanly if you need a wider run. • Sand the raised leaves, then stain, paint or gild the motif and wax the ground for contrast.
