Description

Two winged cherubs float in from either side to cradle a blank oval medallion — a full Baroque panel waiting for your monogram. This decorative relief is built for symmetry: a plain central oval cartouche is framed by scrolled strapwork and flanked by a pair of chubby putti, each riding a great plume of upswept acanthus foliage. A carved palmette crowns the centre, delicate scrolls curl beneath, and the whole composition is bordered top and bottom by crisp egg-and-dart and running-leaf mouldings, with slender pilaster strips closing the ends. The empty oval is the point — it is a ready canvas for a carved initial, a date, a house name or a small painted crest, which makes this a favourite for over-mantels, headboards, cabinet doors and grand door panels. Making notes • Ideal for a 3-axis CNC relief carve: rough with a large ballnose, then finish the cherub faces and foliage undercuts with a 1–2mm tapered ball for clean detail. • Machining in hardwood? Run the finishing pass along the grain of the flowing acanthus to avoid tear-out around the tight scrolls. • 3D printing instead: lay it flat, relief-up, and print at 0.12mm — no supports needed on a front-facing relief. • Leave the oval proud and un-detailed so you can personalise it later with a separate carve or a printed insert. Mirror-balanced and generously deep, it reads as a genuine period centrepiece rather than an applied trim.
