Description

A rose-and-ribbon garland carved to dress a cabinet, headboard or mirror frame. This is a symmetrical decorative onlay in the classic French style. At its heart, two full-blown roses sit among furled acanthus leaves and small five-petal daisies, arranged around a hollow oval so the piece frames whatever sits behind it. Flowing outward from each side are twin ribbon bows, their tails rippling into tapered streamers and fanning out into a spray of piped, tube-like ends — a lovely bit of movement that keeps the whole appliqué from feeling static. The relief is deep and rounded, with crisp petal edges and soft leaf veining that will read beautifully once light rakes across it. Cabinetmakers and restorers will recognise it instantly: it is made to be glued or pinned onto furniture — drawer fronts, bed frames, over-mantels, mirror crowns — or used as a centrepiece motif on a carved door panel. Carving notes: • On a CNC, run a roughing pass then a fine ball-nose finishing pass to bring out the rose scrolls and ribbon undercuts; the deepest curls may want a tapered bit. • Lime, tulipwood or a tight-grained hardwood carves cleanest for this level of floral detail. • If printing, orient the flat back to the bed and support the ribbon streamers where they lift; a resin print holds the fine daisy centres best. • Seal and gild, lime-wax or paint to match the host piece.
