Palmette-Crested Ornate Mirror Frame

A carved frame with a fanned palmette crown and scrolling acanthus wings. This is a classical decorative surround — sized for a mirror or a portrait — topped by a raised central cartouche where a fluted palmette shell spreads above a draped tassel, flanked by symmetrical acanthus scrollwork that sweeps down to the corners. The side rails are broken into neat stacked blocks like a beaded pilaster, and each corner and the base rail finish in tight rolled volutes. The whole thing is a single-sided 2.5D relief meant to be routed flat and then hung. It suits a hallway or dressing-table mirror, a stately picture frame, or a headboard centrepiece in a traditional, French-provincial or period interior. CNC notes • This is a one-sided relief — zero the model to your stock top and cut it face-up in a single setup. • Rough with a 6 mm end mill, then finish with a tapered ball-nose (2–3 mm) to pick up the flutes on the crest and the fine scroll edges. • Basswood, tulipwood, beech or a dense MDF all carve cleanly; MDF is ideal if you plan to paint and gild. • Scale the model so the inner opening matches your mirror or photo aperture before cutting — check that the block rails stay proportional as you resize. • Finish with sanding sealer, then paint, wax or gold leaf; a dark glaze wiped into the recesses makes the carving pop.
