Description

A swirling baroque cartouche that drips with carved acanthus scrolls. This is a symmetrical decorative onlay, an appliqué in deep relief where paired C-scrolls curl inward at the top like ram's horns, a shell-like hollow sits at the heart, and layered acanthus fronds cascade down the sides to feathered tips. Down the centre runs a beaded husk drop, ending in a smooth teardrop pendant at the very bottom. The carving is high and rounded, all movement and catching light, in the full-blooded Rococo manner. Makers glue onlays like this onto furniture such as cabinet doors, headboards, mantels, mirror crests or clock cases, or mount them straight to a wall as a sculptural ornament. It is a finishing flourish that instantly lifts a plain surface into something grand. CNC / print notes • A true 3D relief: rough with an end mill, then finish with a small ball-nose to reach the deep scroll undercuts and the crisp bead drop. • Best routed in a tight-grained hardwood such as lime or basswood, cherry or walnut, or a dense modelling board that holds fine detail. • The deepest scroll pockets may need a long, slender finishing bit; take care not to leave uncut nubs between the volutes. • For 3D printing, print face-up with supports under the overhanging scroll tips; filler primer then paint or gilding gives an antique gesso look. A ready-made touch of palace-grade ornament for furniture restorers, carvers and interior makers.
