Description

A cascade of carved roses spilling across a grand arched crown. This CNC relief is a symmetrical door- or mirror-top surround: two tapered, fluted pilaster legs sweep up and inward into a rounded arch, and draped across the whole span is a lavish garland of full-blown roses, buds and curling leaves. At the very centre sits a fan-shaped acanthus medallion flanked by a pair of tight scroll volutes, giving the piece a distinctly Baroque, old-world cabinetmaker's character. It is made to crown something — the head of an interior door, an arched mirror, a fireplace overmantel, a headboard or a statement furniture panel — with the open lower centre framing whatever sits beneath it. Cutting notes • This is a genuine 3D relief, not a V-carve line drawing: rough it out with a large ballnose, then finish with a 2–3mm tapered ballnose for crisp rose petals and leaf veins. • Close-grained hardwood such as oak, walnut or tulipwood, or a dense tooling board, holds the fine floral undercuts best. • Watch the deep pockets between the rose heads — an 8–10% stepover on the finishing pass keeps them clean and avoids fuzzy tool marks. • The model is left-right symmetrical, so it registers neatly on the centreline if you need to tile the cut across a wide board.
