Winged Sunburst Acanthus Crest Topper

A wide, wing-spread crest with a sunburst flower at its core. At the centre sits a raised circular medallion holding a radiating daisy-like flower, ringed by a beaded band and capped with a small fluted fan. From there the design throws out long, mirrored arms of acanthus scroll and ribbon-like flourishes that taper gracefully to left and right, giving the piece a low, horizontal spread built to sit above something. That makes it a natural topper: run it across the crest of a headboard, above a doorway or archway, along the pediment of a tall cabinet, or over a fireplace mantel. The symmetry reads well from across the room, while the scrollwork rewards a closer look. Cut notes • A wide, shallow relief — clamp the stock well and surface it flat first, because any bow shows across a span this long. • Rough with an end mill, then chase the scroll undercuts and the flower centre with a small ball-nose. • The thin scroll tips are fragile at the ends; leave onion-skin tabs or cut in a tougher timber if the piece will be handled. • It glues on flat, so centre it carefully on its mount before the adhesive grabs.
