Description

A pair of tight scrolls roll inward at the top, then sweep down as reeded arms to meet a small carved plaque at the base. Look closely and this decorative onlay reads like an oversized ornamental handle: two ionic-style volutes crown the piece, each capped with a raised button, and from them the arms fall in crisp, closely-spaced flutes that curve toward the centre. Bridging them sits a rectangular cartouche carved in shallow relief — symmetrical leaf sprays flanking a row of round berries, with a neat crossed-ribbon knot pinning the middle. It's balanced, restrained and unmistakably traditional cabinetmaker's ornament. This is the kind of applied detail that lifts a plain surface: mount it on a cabinet door, a headboard crest, a mirror or clock frame, a drawer front or the apron of a table. Because it's symmetrical it also works mirrored in pairs to frame a panel. Make notes • Ideal for CNC: rough with a ball-nose bit, then a fine finishing pass to keep the flute ridges and berry detail sharp. • Prints flat on the bed relief-up with no supports — the fluting bridges cleanly at a fine layer height. • Great candidate for casting: pull a mould and reproduce it in resin or plaster for repeat trim. • Sand lightly along the flutes and finish with stain, paint or gilding to suit the host piece; scale to fit your panel width.
