Egg-and-Dart Cornice Moulding

Classical crown moulding, ready to run along a ceiling or a cabinet top. This is a length of decorative cornice profile in the classical tradition. Its stepped, projecting section is enriched with a central frieze of egg-and-dart (ovolo) ornament — rounded egg forms alternating with slim pointed darts — and above it runs a delicate band of repeating bead-and-wave detail. Plain fillets and coves top and bottom frame the carved run, so it reads as a proper piece of architectural trim rather than a novelty. The pattern is designed to tile seamlessly, so you can machine it in sections and butt or mitre them into a continuous line. It is at home as ceiling crown moulding, as a cap for cabinetry or a bookcase, along a fireplace mantel or overmantel, or as an ornate top rail on a picture or mirror frame. CNC notes • Cut it as a repeating toolpath tiled along your stock; a ballnose finishing pass rounds the eggs and beads smoothly. • Use a fine ballnose or tapered bit for the small dart tips and the upper wave band. • Straight-grained hardwood (oak, tulipwood, sapele) or high-density PU foam both carve cleanly; foam is lighter for overhead runs. • Mitre the corners at 45 degrees and align the pattern repeat before glue-up so the ornament flows around the room. Scale the profile depth to suit your ceiling height or cabinet proportions.
