Twin Rose Scroll Centrepiece

Two full-blown roses at the centre, and a whole garden of scrollwork spilling out from behind them. This long horizontal centrepiece is the showpiece of the set: a pair of tightly furled rose blooms stacked one above the other, cradled by dense acanthus foliage that unfurls left and right into sweeping C-scrolls. Tiny daisy-like rosettes and leaf tips punctuate the flow, and the two ends finish in generous rolled volutes that give the panel a clear start and stop. Designed to run across a headboard, a dresser rail, a door head or a fireplace frieze, it fills a wide span without looking busy because everything mirrors around the roses. The carving depth varies nicely, the roses stand proudest while the outer scrolls thin toward the ends, which reads beautifully once a stain or glaze settles into the recesses. Print notes: • The layered rose petals are the star and the challenge, use a fine tapered ball-nose (1mm–1.5mm) for the finishing pass to separate each petal cleanly. • Choose a dense, even-grained timber, pear, maple or a good MDF for painted work, to avoid tear-out in the scroll undercuts. • Run the grain along the length so the thin end volutes stay strong. • Expect a long finishing pass; a shallow roughing cut first will save your fine bit from overload.
