Ribbon-Bow Oval Wreath Onlay

A hollow oval ring of carved foliage, cinched at each side by a tied ribbon bow — this onlay turns an empty aperture into a formal centrepiece. The band itself is worked as a continuous run of feathered acanthus leaves, each one curling into a little teardrop eye so the whole loop shimmers with repeated scrollwork. Left and right, a plump ribbon knots into a looped bow, its long streamers rippling outward and settling into gentle waves that soften the strict geometry of the ring. The open middle is the point: mount it around a wall clock, a mirror, a monogram, or a plain panel and the wreath does the framing. It reads beautifully on a headboard crest, a wardrobe door, an overmantel, or as a standalone plaque once backed. Cutting & print notes • This is a flat-backed appliqué — the reverse stays plain so it can be glued straight onto a substrate. • For CNC, a 3-axis job with a tapered ball-nose handles the leaf channels and bow folds; run a fine finishing pass to clean the eyes of each scroll. • The ribbon tails and bow loops carry slight undercuts; resin printing captures them fully, whereas routing will read them as deep relief rather than fully free-standing. • Size it to your opening first, sand the raised leaves, then gild, lime-wax or paint to taste. A gilded finish over a dark ground makes the scrollwork pop. Elegant, symmetrical and genuinely useful wherever a bare edge needs dressing up.
