Horizontal Acanthus Headboard Onlay

A long ribbon of carved acanthus to run across a headboard or door panel. Where a crest sits tall, this piece stretches wide. It's a horizontal centrepiece onlay: a compact knot of scrolls and a small palmette at the very middle, from which lush acanthus leaves unfurl symmetrically left and right. The foliage overlaps and curls back on itself, thinning gradually toward the ends where the last leaves taper to delicate points against the background. The carving is layered and lively — leaves rising over leaves — so it catches light along its whole length and looks far more expensive than the stock it's cut from. Think of it as a decorative band: mounted along the top rail of a headboard, spanning a cabinet door, dressing a fireplace surround or mirror frame, or set into a length of trim. Its low, flowing profile suits pieces that want elegance without bulk. Print / CNC notes • On the router, rough with a ball-nose then detail the leaf veins and undercuts with a fine tapered ball bit; the crossing leaves need a small stepover for a smooth finish. • Because it's long and shallow, watch for stock movement — clamp or tape the whole length and take light finishing passes. • FDM: lay it flat on the plain reverse face, print at 0.12–0.16mm, and it needs no supports. • Sand the raised leaf tips carefully, then wax, stain or gild; a dark glaze wiped into the recesses really deepens the layered look before mounting with wood glue.
