Description

A tall carved onlay that reads like a small altarpiece of scrolls, petals and a fluted shell. The centrepiece is an upright oval frame cradling a full daisy rosette, its many slender petals radiating from a domed button centre. That medallion is clasped top and bottom by rolled ribbon-scrolls, and from either side sweep symmetrical acanthus C-scrolls that curl outward with real spring. Crowning the whole thing is a slim leafy finial that tapers to a point, while the base blossoms into a broad, deeply fluted scallop shell resting on a scrolled foot. The relief is generous and rounded, throwing soft shadows that make the piece feel hand-carved. This is a decorative appliqué for furniture and interiors: a crown for a cabinet or headboard, a centre motif above a doorway or mirror, or a feature panel on a mantel. It suits classic, Rococo-leaning and traditional joinery beautifully. Cut and finish notes • Best run as a 2.5D relief on a CNC router; a 30-40 degree tapered ball-nose for the finish pass keeps the petal valleys and shell flutes clean. • Straight-grained hardwoods (lime, tulipwood, cherry) carve crispest; softwood will need a slower finishing feed. • Mind the fragile top finial and the outer scroll tips — leave onion-skin tabs and part them by hand. • Sand the raised petals lightly, then gild, wax or paint to taste before gluing to the substrate.
