Description

A rose at the crown of a sweeping baroque flourish. This is a wide, symmetrical onlay — a horizontal appliqué that rises to a peak at the centre and tapers to curling tips at each end. At its heart sits a full-blown rose framed by leaves; beneath it an oval beaded medallion anchors a burst of acanthus scrollwork that unfurls left and right in mirrored C- and S-curves. Onlays like this exist to dress a plain surface. Glue or pin it above a doorway or mirror as a crest, centre it on a cabinet door, headboard or drawer front, run it along a fireplace frieze, or use it as the topper on a picture frame. Its low, spreading profile suits any spot that wants a horizontal accent rather than a tall one. CNC / print notes • Cut on the flat with the carved side up; the piece is essentially a relief, so the back stays plain for gluing. • The undercut curls of the scrolls are delicate — leave onion-skin tabs or a sacrificial base if machining, and handle the thin tips carefully on release. • Basswood, lime or MDF machine cleanly here; for FDM, a 0.12 mm layer height keeps the rose petals and bead ring readable. • Prime and paint to match existing trim, or gild the raised rose and scrolls over a dark ground for a classic gold-on-walnut effect.
