Mirrored Scroll Frieze Onlay

Two mirrored S-scrolls sweep out from a central plume like wrought iron frozen in wood. This is a slim, horizontal decorative onlay, the kind of applique that runs above a door, across a headboard rail, or centred on a cabinet frieze. A small fanned palmette anchors the middle, top and bottom, and from it ribbon-like scrolls flow outward, looping into open teardrop eyes before tailing off to fine points at each end. The whole piece is left-to-right symmetrical and quite shallow in relief, so it sits proud of a flat surface without dominating it. Its open, airy character makes it a natural centre-piece for classic and art-nouveau interiors: mirror crowns, clock cases, or the apron of a console table. Print notes • As a CNC job this is a two-tool affair. Rough with a small end mill, then finish the rounded ribbons with a ball-nose to keep the flowing highlights smooth. • The thin tapering tips are fragile, so leave a touch more stock there or glue-mount the piece before final sanding. • For 3D printing, lay it flat and print face-up; the gently domed profile bridges fine on FDM and captures well in resin. • Paint, gild or wax to taste. A dark glaze wiped into the scroll valleys really lifts the twin-loop pattern.
