Acanthus Crest Laurel Swag Onlay

A grand mirror-symmetric crest that spreads into two sweeping laurel arms. At the centre stands an upright acanthus palmette, its curled fronds fanning open beneath a small tulip-like finial and a pair of tight scroll volutes. From behind it, two long feathered laurel branches arc outward and down, meeting in a little rosette at the bottom to close the design into a wide, open wreath. It's rendered here in warm gold, with every leaf tip and vein crisply modelled in shallow relief. This is a decorative onlay meant to sit above something: crowning an interior door or archway, centred on a headboard or a tall mirror frame, or applied to a mantel or cabinet as a furniture crest. The generous horizontal spread makes it ideal wherever you need to fill a wide span with a single ornament. CNC notes: • Treat it as a relief carving — rough out the ground with a larger end mill, then finish the leaves and volutes with a tapered ball-nose bit to catch the fine veining. • It cuts cleanly in hardwood (oak, tulipwood) or dense MDF; MDF sands smooth for a painted or gilded finish. • Scale it to the width of your door or headboard first, and keep the relief depth modest so it reads well under paint. • Sand the raised leaf edges lightly after machining and seal before gilding.
