Description

A tall, flame-like acanthus leaf that turns a plain panel into something classical. This is a decorative onlay — a single symmetrical acanthus frond that rises to a feathered tip and splits at the base into two tightly rolled volute scrolls. Every leaflet curls outward with a scooped, cupped face, and a deep central spine runs the full height, so the piece throws strong light-and-shadow even under flat lighting. It's the vocabulary of Georgian and Rococo furniture, columns and fireplace surrounds, distilled into one clean, ready-to-make element. Makers use it as a furniture appliqué, a mirror or headboard accent, a stair-newel embellishment, or a repeated motif running down a pilaster. Mirror it, stack it or rescale it and you have a whole matched set from a single file. Print / carve notes: • Ideal as a CNC relief: it's essentially 2.5D, so a roughing pass plus a ball-nose finishing pass gives clean results in oak, pine or MDF. • For 3D printing, lay it flat on its back face — zero supports, and the carved side prints upward for the crispest detail. • Resin captures the leaflet undercuts best; FDM at 0.12 mm is fine if you plan to paint or gild. • Prime and rub back, then a gilt wax or dark glaze worked into the recesses really sells the antique carved look. Model the depth to suit — shallow for an inlay, deeper for a proud sculpted onlay.
