Shell-Crest Acanthus Cartouche

A shell crest bursting into acanthus scrolls. This centrepiece builds upward to a small scalloped shell crest with a soft heart-shaped lobe at the very top, then fans outward into broad acanthus leaves that sweep down and roll under into two tight volute scrolls, each with a round bead at its eye, meeting at the base. Smaller leaf tips curl back at the outer corners, and deep flutes run through every frond so the whole surface is light and shadow. It's a high, confident relief, the raised shell standing well proud of the leafwork. Classic crown material: set it over a mirror, at the apex of a door or cabinet pediment, or as the centre of an overmantel. CNC notes: • The domed shell and rolled scrolls want real depth, so use a thick blank and expect a long finishing pass. • Rough with an 8 to 10mm ball, then finish veins and scroll eyes with a 2mm tapered ball. • Hardwood holds the crisp flutes best; MDF works if you seal before painting. • Sand with the leaf flow and pick out the recesses with wax or glaze for contrast.
