Description

A cascade of classical leafwork to dress plain furniture. This vertical onlay is pure old-world cabinetry ornament: a symmetrical palmette crown of paired C-scrolls opens at the top, then spills into a long, tapering spray of overlapping acanthus leaves. Down the centre runs a string of three graduated beads, like a pendant caught among the foliage, the whole drop narrowing to a single pointed leaf-tip at the base. The layered lobes catch light and shadow, giving flat surfaces instant depth. Appliques like this are the quick route to a richer look — glue one to a cabinet stile, a mantel, a headboard, a mirror surround or a clock case and a builder-grade panel starts to read as antique. Making notes • Carve as a shallow 3D relief: hardwoods such as oak, beech or cherry take the fine leaf edges best. • Rough with a flat end mill, finish with a 2–3mm ball-nose along the leaf curls; a small tapered bit cleans the deep grooves between lobes. • Leave a flat back for easy gluing; keep overall thickness modest so it sits proud without dominating. • Prints well too as a resin or FDM onlay — sand the back flat, then stain or gild to match the piece it decorates.
