Description

A grand centrepiece crest to crown a door or headboard. This decorative onlay is a symmetrical Baroque cartouche built from swirling acanthus foliage. From a central palmette fan, leafy scrolls sweep outward and upward into two long, feathered wings, while a pair of round rosette flowers anchor the shoulders and a curling volute drops beneath. The carving is a deep, layered relief — leaves overlapping leaves — so it reads as rich, three-dimensional woodwork rather than a shallow engraving. It is a single ornamental appliqué designed to sit centred on a larger surface. Use it as a crest above a doorway or archway, on a bed headboard, a fireplace overmantel, a wardrobe pediment, a mirror frame or a feature wall panel. Cut it as a loose appliqué to glue onto finished furniture, or carve it in place on a solid panel. Cut notes: • This is a fine, deep relief — plan a roughing pass then a detail finish with a 1–1.5mm tapered ball-nose to reach into the overlapping leaf undercuts. • Symmetry matters here: confirm the model is centred on the X axis so both wings match after machining. • Close-grained hardwoods or dense modelling board give the crispest leaf tips; back up the delicate outer scroll ends against tear-out. • Left natural it suits stained oak; primed and gilded it turns into a gold Rococo accent, and a wash into the recesses lifts every leaf.
