Rococo Scroll-Crest Frame Crown

An elegant arched frame crown, crested with a scrolled cartouche and finished with curling feet. This piece forms the top and shoulders of a shaped frame or headboard: two gracefully curved, cabriole-style arms sweep up from rolled scroll feet at the bottom, meet beneath a raised central cartouche, and enclose an open space ready for a mirror, a picture or a padded panel. The crest itself is a tidy knot of confronted C-scrolls topped with a small fan, lending the whole frame a Rococo, French-provincial air. It is designed to be the decorative surround for something else — a mirror over a console, a bedhead panel, or a frame for artwork — where the empty centre is the whole point. Print notes • The smooth, rounded mouldings favour a ballnose finishing pass; there is little fine detail beyond the crest, so it machines quickly. • Carve in hardwood for a stained finish, or MDF if you plan to paint it soft grey, cream or gilt. • The frame is broad and flat in profile, so it lays face-up on the bed or table with no supports. • Cut the crest cartouche a touch deeper than the arms so it reads as the clear focal point.
