Description

A crown for the top of the cabinet. Here is a vertical cresting ornament: a tall, symmetrical palmette flaring upward from a base moulding, its central plume tipped with a small bud finial and flanked by broad, fanning acanthus leaves that spill outward and curl into scrolled tips at the shoulders. Beneath the fan, a fluted teardrop drops down over the horizontal rail like a keystone. Despite the tags, there is no lattice or mandala here — it is pure carved foliage. The motif is designed to sit centred on a straight run of moulding: the kind of ornament that caps a wardrobe pediment, a bookcase cornice, an over-mantel or the top of a tall mirror. Because the piece marries a raised centrepiece to an integrated length of moulded rail, it does two jobs at once — statement motif and trim in a single cut. Print / CNC notes: • Deep, layered relief — plan a roughing pass followed by at least one fine ball-nose finishing pass to reach into the leaf channels. • Cut or print face-up with the rail horizontal; the tallest plume is the high point, so set Z-zero there. • Gorgeous in carved hardwood for a stained finish, or in MDF and resin when it is bound for paint or gilding. • Fill and prime FDM prints before painting — the flowing leaf surfaces show layer lines readily. Pair it with matching side scrolls to frame a whole cabinet top.
