Palmette Acanthus Scroll Crest

A flowing scrollwork crest that spreads its wings across a headboard or cabinet. This symmetrical onlay grows from a central palmette plume — a fan of grooved feathers rising to a heart-shaped tip — then splits into two mirrored acanthus scrolls that sweep outward and curl back on themselves in tight volute snails. The lowest pair of scrolls hooks inward like a matched set of question marks, giving the whole ornament a balanced, almost calligraphic sway. It's an ideal appliqué for the centre of a headboard, the apron of a console table, a mirror crown or an over-door panel — anywhere a single decorative flourish lifts a plain surface. The broad open curves make it forgiving to carve and easy to sand. CNC notes • Machine as a raised relief; a ball-nose finishing toolpath keeps the scroll grooves and rolled tips smooth. • The out-flung scroll ends are the fragile points — orient the grain to run along the sweep and cut from a stable hardwood. • Works glued on as an onlay or carved directly into the workpiece; a shallow-to-medium Z-depth suits most furniture. • Finish with stain and wax, or paint and gild the raised curves for a French-antique look.
