Fluted Shell Fan Appliqué

A rising sunburst of a shell, with a spray of acanthus pinned at its heart. This appliqué takes the form of a wide fan or half-scallop: deep radiating flutes sweep out from a low central boss and open to a gently scalloped upper rim, so the whole thing reads like a spread paper fan or a rising sun. Set into the middle is a round medallion holding a symmetrical palmette — curling acanthus leaves rising from a teardrop core — and a small foliate pendant drips below the fan's base like a tassel. The convex flutes catch light in long clean streaks, which makes it a strong focal ornament above a doorway, at the crown of a cabinet or headboard, over an arch or window, or centred on a drawer front. Cut / print notes: • Orient the piece so the flutes run with the tool's finishing direction; a tapered ball-nose walks the valleys cleanly and keeps the ridges sharp. • The central palmette medallion is the highest-relief zone — take a light final pass there to avoid fuzz on the leaf tips. • Flat-backed and one-sided: it prints face-up straight onto the bed with no supports, and mounts flush with glue or pocket screws. • Lime, poplar or MDF all machine well; if printing, a fine layer height keeps the radiating flutes smooth for painting or gilding.
